what is the best web-based stock screener? Free or paid

Post by richard »

I am looking to trade some systems that require certain conditions and I am looking for a good web-based stock screener.

Example of what I want to do:

Find stocks that are in a downtrend or uptrend, as defined by, say, ADX over 30 and/or -DMA or +DMI above a certain point, and that are also above or below certain moving averages, that type of thing.

Do you have some suggestions? Thanks!

I almost awlays cringe when I see: "what is the best [xxx]?" as if "best" could be unambiguously determined by some objective metrics.

It is almost as if you had asked "what is the best web site for wines which are long in the mouth, have a bit of a leg, but not too rich in tannin?"

What kind of anwser would you expect?

I run my stock "system" using http://www.stockcharts.com. I have been very happy with them over the past 2-3 years.

Try wealth-lab at www.wealth-lab.com

You can run fairly complex rules and screen a wide variety of global stocks and run historical tests to check the robustness/profitability of your system. Also available are other trading rules developed and published by other users. And all for FREE!

If you really like what can be done through the website then you can always buy the application which has even more features.

Happy hunting!

Try the Reuters Powerscreener at:

www.reuters.com

Click Investing, then Ideas And Screening then PowerScreener.

You have to register (for free), but it has more flexibility and variables than anything else I have seen.

Hope this Helps

A good friend of mine (and best man at my wedding) Kevin Matras offers a very powerful software package called "Research Wizard" from Zacks Investment Research.

The sweet spot of the platform is based on the Zacks Rank which is Zacks claim to fame and has produced some impressive results when combined with almost ANY screen. Its like a magic ingredient that improves just about any screening rule.

You can learn more and get a free demo here:

http://www.zacks.com/researchwizard/ind ... ite=screen

Mention my name to him for a discount.

Stockfetcher really is great. Much much better than bloombergs EQS function for TA based filters and virtually free by comparison. Awesome.
