stock historical database

Post by bmitchell »

Does anyone have a recommended source for a historical database of equities data that is suitable for testing. Requirements are;

- dividend data available (including one-time dividends)

- split data

- inclusion of stocks that no longer trade

- membership information for major indexes, including changes through the years

- sector membership data, including changes through the years

None of the data i've seen (including that which I currently use) even comes close to these requirements.

I think you have identified a market opportunity. You could start a business named "Stock Quotes The Right Way" that sells data meeting your requirements. You know from your own research that there are no competitors whatsoever, and you also know there are loads of customers (people just like yourselves!) who would immediately buy your service.

Sounds like a killer business plan. Unmet need + big market = profit$.
