what would the turtles use as rules for short selling equities?
Not that the stock market is going down, but in preparation of the next bear, I am curious what rules would be used.

Ok, I'll bite ... original Turtle rules didn't mention anything about equities. They were constructed for the futures markets. Some folks have adapted the original rules to other markets such as FOREX. Maybe someone can chime in who's successfully implemented them on equities (search the board for discussion). Typically the Turtle rules do not do well on the S&P index, but perhaps there are mods for trading individual stocks.
Given that, the rules specified trading 20 day and 55 day lowest low breakouts for going short. You can read more about the original rules at http://www.originalturtles.org/system.htm.
