I think you are confusing their PAMM (which is the manager system) with their segregated accounts. You can custody your funds at a different bank (or banks) and then trade through Dukascopy. This way should Dukascopy go bankrupt your funds are at another bank. The link can be found here: http://www....

When I was looking into them some while ago, OANDA seemed to have the biggest asset base. However, that is still no guarantee. I don't know if there are better methods of checking this. You can spread your risk around, by having various accounts with different brokers. Adds a bit more admin to thing...

OANDA have always been very professional in their dealings with me. I can say that I am pleased with their service. I also have a Dukascopy account. The plan was to automate my strategy into JForex, but with my small trade frequency, I just do everything manually nowadays. Dukascopy is also pretty g...

If you plan on saving to .csv, then your format needs to be the same as the TB format. If not, the data will not import correctly. You will need to align your cells so that they are in the same sequence as what TB uses. Then saving to csv should work. Unfortunately I have not yet done anything like ...

Rereading the post, I see you already have the spreadsheet from Bloomberg. After thinking about this some more, you can modify this spreadsheet to include multiple securities, although you will most probably be using up all of your columns or lots of tabs. You will just need to have a central databa...

Have a look at the attached spreadsheet for the formulas for any individual securities. However, you need access to a PC with Bloomberg installed, otherwise the formulas do not work. I did not find a way to do this for more than one security at a time, but that does not mean that there isn't one. Gr...

I have not used commodity ETFs to date, so I have no experience in their performance. I have however used index ETFs when I was saving up for my futures account in 2004-2006. I found that there was very little variance between the ALSI 40 Index and the SATRIX ETF. To me, that was a very useful exerc...

My issue is having my actual executions match up with what csi lists as their bar close. I think ill need to move intraday to find an adequate solution for my current needs.. Oh well, dragged into the new century (again). rr I'm pretty sure you have much more experience at this than I do, but I fou...

1. From the beginning I knew I needed to trade real money to determine whether the edge was real or not. I knew the basics of LTTF strategies, and it probably took me a month to backtest and decide on a strategy. At that point I risked real money. 2. I stick with one strategy. It is still trend-foll...

One of the insights I got from my experience was that if I feel uncomfortable with the drawdowns, I should rather look at diversifying more and reducing the overall portfolio risk. Using DRTs to try to trade aggressively, while still keeping drawdowns low did not work as well as I had hoped. Perhaps...

Great post Sluggo, I have never viewed the area under the drawdown curve, nor attempted to calculate it. I might do so for future backtests. However, in all my live trading, I found that trying to use DRTs just led to the drawdown becoming longer. Shortly after the drawdown reached its maximum point...

I believe in Basso's paper on his test, he admitted that his results were affected by survivorship bias. If I remember correctly, he only used CTAs that were active at the ending period of his test, rather than those which were active throughout the whole period. Thus, in real life applications, one...

I ran some tests and the answer is yes, the home currency does affect performance. I tested the USD vs. EUR on non-US and non-EUR crosses. The results were pretty similar, but different nonetheless. Now i guess the question is should a person trade the foreign crosses. If I can trade GBP/USD and US...

Re: Does USD price affect foreign forex cross trades?
My home currency is USD. If I trade a cross that doesn't have USD in it, like EUR/JPY, does the movement of USD affect the profitability of the trade? Part of me seems to think that movement of USD would cancel itself out in a foreign cross, but another part of me thinks that because USD is my home...

I would firstly check the logic. If the market traded at a high of 0.9345 yesterday, then the breakout for today should be at least 0.9345 (depending on number of days). If the logic is correct, then you need to still take the breakout. However, I suspect you are trading a forex account with OANDA, ...

The widening spread does not really affect me as my stops are far enough away. I do not trade any of the exotics and they tend to have much wider spreads. Sometimes my stops do get hit due to the widening of the spread. I accept it as part of doing business with Oanda. This has not really affected m...

I've found trading to be boring. I've also found that it's better to tone down the risk, let the system run its course, don't overtrade and just try to concentrate on other things. This is a complete turnaround from my original impression, which was that day-trading would lead to much higher...
