My system works well on equity indices as well as commodities and other futures, and I'm fairly long-term (in my opinion). I trade each market 0 to 5 times a year, 5 being on the high side (whipped), the average is 1 trade per year.

Nice post Jim. This was a tough change for me, too. For me, it was all about the system. My trading system resembles me, in a way it's who I am, the risks associated with it, the frequency of trades, the time in a drawdown, the compounded growth rates, the number of rules (someone could wake me up f...
I agree with the last post. I don't know how to give feedback when I don't know what the system is. Maybe it's me, but I have absolutely no idea (not even a clue) of how this system works or what the system is or if it even is a system. I see words like type 2 or type 3 trade, 8 minute charts and bu...
Yes, you need money (the more the better), a couple of buddies on the floor (i.e.members) to sign off on your app, and a clean record, then, once you're cleared, you take a test to confirm you understand open outcry and I think that's it (clearing membership aside). Its been 10+ years for me, but th...
Reuters is the best data I've seen along with news. Its been a few years since I've been on a desk; Reuters was the norm at that time. Bloomberg is popular with fixed income people.
Hi Tim, As usual I'm confused. Maybe, it because I don't have the full picture, so I'll guess about the situation. In your example: If you're long at 106-00 and you want to stop out at 105.-26. You get long at 106-00 then once you get your fill you give your sell stop 105-26 GTC.....no problem. I am...
This is one of those amazing strings. I read a few posts and I couldn't take it anymore, so here's my comment. If I was seekinga review of my money management, I'd explain it, then compare the test results to say fixed fractional and maybe % ratio, and if the test results of the new money management...
Nice point, and good question.
My tests show that price breaks usually preceed carry. The trick is to watch when the institutions pile into the carry trade, they are the ones that really push the move.
Brokers and floor clerks are very particular about order titles. By your description of this user it sounds like he/she doesn't understand the execution process very well, nor do they understand the difference between a stop loss and a sell stop. Moreover, it sounds like they waited to enter the sto...
Carry is important, but is not more important than being long/short the strongest/weakest horse out of the gate. I find many times the large carry trade agrees with the best trade.
TC - I agree with the statement. Spot gets crushed in the near term (no JIT inventory issues), and the dec 07 CL doesn't get as crushed........ There's still a LT play in the distant futures, makes sense to me, lot more uncertainty in the non existant future. If you want more, check out global CL su...
Okay, another interesting topic.
This is great! A laugh out loud for me, thanks for the entertainment.
I don't see how a persons food desires or rollercoaster rides relate to their ability to trading trends succesfully, but hey, he is a doctor, or is his first name doctor?
Hi Jake, Someone says in this string, "I don't call this a black swan day.", and I agree. I think the issue here is NOT how do you build rules around funny-mental release dates, it's about following your system when you get whipped... Kind of sounds like .......... Hotseat! What's the feel...
I'm a NY boy. COMEX/NYMEX trading. I love open outcry, it's drama! Tough place to trade for me personally. My only observation is to trade directly with the floor, don't use some dopy broker who calls down to the floor. Do it yourself!!
Forum Mgmnt,
I own a copy of V-trader, and it has its merits, thank you for creating it. My question now is, will you disclose the C++ code for anything in it?
On a jovial note... One good way to avoid Black Swan events is to see them coming ahead of time and get out of the market. Would you explain how you see Black Swan events ahead of time? :P The page 16 articles that are on their way to migrating to page 1 ;) I have no idea what you just wrote.
