di+ di- will do the trick

When DI+ crosses over DI- ie. green is on the top the trend is positive (no matter for how shortlived it maybe) reverse is true for downtrend. This also musy be confirmed with weekly charts.

spread btwn cash and far out month 07

In regards of crude oil....someone made this statement but I would deduce just the opposite.
"The spread between spot and 07 is $5.00, it was over $10.00 a few months ago. That indicates to me that maybe this down move is a temporary retracement."
fundies what is the deal?

problem with this FX strategy

the bid/ask spread is often so large of the exotics that you can drive a Mack truck through.

yes, thanks

it is very much of what I thought. with the side note that there are many CTA's who have zero to manage and they resort to writing newsletters and in the case of one former turtle become IB's.
thanks for the post.

thanks a lot for the replies

the series 30 manual mentions a lot but it is all legalese. I know that CTA's can handle discretionary accounts while brokers need 2 year or NFA exemption. Some CTAs write newsletters, some just have it for the fun of it. All in all still right now you can write software and disseminate advi...

does anyone have

an idea where I can find out of the CTA business more? What do they do and why. Is there a guide to traders thinking of becoming CTA's.
I never thought of them as better than a broker - after all it is a reg only.
NFA member - right?

Re: pit vs. electronic offset

I do not think so. The sizes are different, that maybe so if you trade a ratio of matching the size diff. If your trade is placed in the same month, they will offset each other. One reason you may want to do this is if you executed to open a position on the electronic session and that exchange went ...

Never - you can attempt to arb these markets and you won't

Never - you can attempt to arb these markets and you won't be the only one, only that there is no point doing that. I rather arb different contract months or futures - like corn versus weat.

Why bother?

Using great ideas on a shoestring is my forte. I ran into people who have $3000 and the itch to trade. Here is what I tell them; "trade spreads like you would buy sell the future but spread the bull or bear spread accordingly." For those who are little more sophisticated I tell to trade fo...

what struck me is that it is free and you can enter spreads (!) + they have a real desk more than IB can say... might want to try VisionPro maybe less error msgs for a price... I have been running the trial and while it looks OK I do get a lot of error messages - VE seems to want some connection wit...

Vision Express

Anyone know this platform or use it?
it is from
http://www.visionlp.com/

The platform is very decent and apparently supports a chain of futures IB's with decent commission. I hear that they will soon offer securities access.

ib IS a european company

they recommend to have a voice based and live broker backup and only use ib as a paralel broker. (this to me sounds like BS)
Europe is big on fees and charges and I doubt you'll find anything matching IB's cost.

Good link. Thanks
I meant primarily parameter optimization and testing on a well selected group (basket) that one would normally trade from. I suppose it is ok to exlude Palladium if you do not ever want to trade that market, but trade gold and silver....

why is curve fitting so bad?

I am trying to understand this - I do not mean to curve fit a system for a specific commodity or an index for example but having a system curve fitted for say,l commodities is acceptable in my opinion. What do you think?

Re: Are You Suited to Trend Following

I have read the test. But it is silly. If one has neurotic tendencies he/she should not trade period. Trend following or otherwise. The paper makes it sound like trend following you can't do but other forms of trading, gambling are ok. Medication is the key :) Personality and Trend-Following by Bret...
