CSI missing data

Post by TC »

I recently bought 25 years of stock data from CSI. Upon reviewing the data I found many instances where several years of data was missing.

The response from CSI was:

........that is all we have as far as history..........

It is inconceivable to me that CSI would not have a complete history of US stock prices and I'm making further inquiries with them. Just wondered if anyone else had encountered anything similar.

Thanks

Tom

Thought you might be interested in the response I have just received from CSI.

Per our Database Department,

Thank you for your email. I appreciate your question, but CSI has
never claimed to have all stocks from the very first day of trading.
When CSI started following stocks we had no way of getting back history
except for having it entered manually. That is the only reason we do
have the Dow 30 back to the 1970's. What is said in all contracts,
where clients get historical data, is that 'we carry historical data as
listed in the CSI Stock/Index/Commodity, etc. Fact Sheets. If they see
the fact sheets, they'll notice that the Dow 30, for instance, in our
files goes back to 1962, for IBM, GE, GM, and later for the others. No
where do we ever say/write that we have data from inception of trading.
We are continuously adding history data to our database even as of
today because some customers would like to follow stocks that we
currently don't provide. So, once we start following a stock that is
what we have as the starting date. I know this is not the answer your
looking for but at this time we do not have access to the history your
requesting.

Thank You,
Ron Franz
CSI Database Department

It is both surprising and disappointing that CSI is unable to provide a complete price history for many US stocks given that this information is readily available elsewhere.
