I have an oanda game account and have just opened a GFT account. In both cases you have to be very careful about where you place stop and limit orders. In oanda's case they use the mid point and you have to put your stop 1pt outside of the pt you want to stop but put your limit one point inside the ...

Thanks for the thoughts, That may well prove correct. GFT stated that they don't do it so, if I catch them, I will dump the account simply because they lied to me. I will also document it in detail on a couple of boards. In the general sense, if fading is standard practice then it will impact the de...

Forex: Yet another Opinion

I have system traded currency futures for years and much of the profitability of systems trading comes from the trendiness of currencies. All currency trading is pairs trading ... the cme futures you trade are typically EUR/USD, JYP/USD, SF/USD, GBP/USD and AUD/USD. We talk about the spreads that fo...

I was interested in byte at one point and they published an interesting article, part one of a series, on their website. But several years later there is no part 2 so I wonder if they have lost interest.

Very nice Leonardo,

I took up day trading to achieve a similar objective but have often wondered about building up currency positions taking 4-7 ticks risk at a time. I might see if I can work out a strategy when I have time.

Beware of anything offered by SP. The ideas are pedestrian and the requests for ones money back are not answered. Also if he gets one of your email addresses be careful because it is going to be filled with spam. Fib is not a system but a set of retracements or projection ratios that are used by dis...

Hmmm. I certainly wouldnt suggest that Van had started a cult or even had a cult following -- the trading tribe would have more chance of achieving that status (just the cute name guys, no offence intended to followers). I think that there is a lot of useful material in Van's stuff although it is da...

Very well spotted BBC :-) One of the really interesting things about trading is that one myth is often replacd by another one. As in any guru game this is an important element. Another is the assignment of what were sometimes another persons ideas to the guru. A clever guru lets his acolytes do this...

The annoying thing about Van is that he answers every decent psychological question on his board with an advert for another darned course. So whether or not his work is based much on academically discredited NLP approaches or not ... his simple "lets sell another pp course rather than offer ope...

I liked the quote Kevin especially the logic that leads one to conclude that if u have to pad it then it is totally useless. My first hit searching on Google . I felt it was rather nicely balanced by finally providing a formula for the long and patiently waiting joeb4now and, rather more usef...

From a book reveiew: trade (not drawdown) experienced in backtesting. If you use optimal f and the largest loss in actual trading is greater than the loss experienced in backtesting, you will go bankrupt. Vince deals with this problem in an offhanded manner by suggesting that the actual f you use sh...

Roscoe, Another version of that question might be: "is it a good recommendation that you (say) double your risk when you know relatively little about what you are doing and are going to experience your own mistakes as well as surprises about slippage and the markets?" John PS. My father al...

JWebster. Possibly not. The larger spreads on spreadbetting tend to nullify the issue that you face trading it directly --- excessive slippage/bad fills. Also u get a quote and choose whether to accept it which I find changes the mechanics somewhat. UT. Yes you are correct. I am not aware of any fre...

I would be exceptionally careful of drawing any conclusions based on tests on the hang seng. My reasons are: - compared with dax, estx, es, ym etc hang seng is very thin with ugly spreads and the market maker behaviour is questionable. Your slippage is likely to be much greater. - hang seng may well...

As you suggest. One is monthly based. The other annual. If you do a search of this site you will find a discussion involving c.f. and Mark (I think) that will make it clear to you why one might be preferred to the other and resolves the issues you raise.

kalitka, What you are doing might be fun. Its like doing crosswords or some such. But I dont believe it has a strong likelihood of improving your trading. This is a little like a behaviourist vs cognitive psych issue. IMO if you can observe the markets behaviour and determine a combination of entry,...
