I remember once buying some shares in a Gold mining company called Sons of Gwalia. I thought I was getting exposure to the price of gold. sons of Gwalia - brings back memories - you bought dodgy management and a short gold book. Ah yes, that great Aussie 'could-a-been', the Sons of Gwalia Gold Mini...

. . . Perhaps I should look to see if IB offers a One-Triggers-Another (OTA) order. In that way I could trigger an order to buy/sell an ETF when the associated futures reaches a specfic stop price. All critiques welcome. I believe IB does have such an order. It’s called a “Conditional Orderâ€

Further to the above charts;

You might notice that during early October the ETF hit its lows.
Not so for the Futures, the lows were hit in August.
This too may have caused a 'what-should-I-do' moment for the RBOB ETF trader who bases his/her decisions on the futures.

When trading your system on ETF’s as a proxy to Futures you might, at some stage, be required to answer this question; “o.k. what should I do now?, I just got filled on my ETF order but this order would not have been filled on the futures (it just missed!). As far as my futures system is concern...

Very sensible commentary re: Brokerage Risk from speculative-investor.com Brokerage risk in the wake of MF Global After MF Global (MFG), a US-based futures broker, went bankrupt late last year, it was discovered that a sizeable chunk of its customers' assets were missing. Although it has been widely...

There seems to be some confusion associated with this post.
This post has absolutely nothing to do with whether markets will or will not trend in 2012,
or whether 2011 was a bad year for trend followers,
or whether “Trend following can helpâ€

Is now the time to take a trading holiday?

Over at the MF Global thread on page 37, we have reference to this article; http://www.zerohedge.com/news/guest-post-run-global-banking-system-how-close-are-we This, to my mind, is essential reading for anyone with any money in any trading account. It is a disturbing read. Definitely for Adults Only...

Yes indeed!, a very dirty year for trend followers. (in general) From the website of fellow forum member ‘Jez liberty’ we see that, on average , trend followers are DOWN 7.38% to end of November 2011. Quite a lot of ‘Red’ and not much ‘Black’ shown in the performance table. http://www.au...

If you remove the most profitable 2011 instruments from your 2012 trading you are making a forecast that those 2011 winners will be 2012 duds and this forecast then, perhaps, flies in the face of your motto; [quote]“forecasting markets is as futile as forecasting the weather. Personally I gurantee...

There are often times when I believe my judgement may be clouded by my moods, my body chemicals. There are times when I believe I may be adversely affected by external events which, in more buoyant moments, I would be oblivious to. On an intellectual basis I am usually very well aware of what is go...
