Wanted to put this out to audience
For those of you who trade stocks, how are you deciding your trailing stops?
ATR ? As in 2 times ATR, etc
A short term MA?
price channels/N-day breakdown?
Gut feel?
thanks

which equities tied to OJ futures?
could someone please advise what stocks/equities are closely tied to OJ futures?
I see that OJ has been in a bearish downtrend for an extended time now, I am just curious what will happen to related stocks when the OJ futures eventually turn around
thanks

Reputable Futures broker rec?
Hey everyone I am a fairly experienced with online stock trading, using a trend following approach, using DATEK and Ameritrade. I execute at most a few trades a month. I use obviously technical analysis, with MA's, price breakouts, volume study, as the bulk of my methods. I am educating myself (in D...

turtle rules for short selling equities?
what would the turtles use as rules for short selling equities?
Not that the stock market is going down, but in preparation of the next bear, I am curious what rules would be used.
thanks

Verec
No Verec, we are on the same page. I agree with your post and I personally (not speaking for the entire world, but for me) SUPPORT simple methods such as MA crossover and N-day breakouts. Stan Weinstien, William O'Neil, of course c.f.' site and files, Livermore, Nick Darvas, are all sources I contin...

MA crossovers do indeed work, it just depends on the type of security in question and the overall market trend. The MA crossover method in and by itself is not the Holy Grail, for stocks you need to look at 1) Overall Market trend 2) Sector Trend 3) Specific stock action itself One reliable method i...

breakouts from base pattern - similarities to Turtle Method?
Hello all Happy New Year to everybody. I am a trend trader using primarily MA crossover but recently "discovered" that breakouts from a base pattern can be very rewarding. I use IBD data to determine underlying sector strength and accumulation/distribution activity also. I like breakouts w...

NLP - anyone benefit?
Hey everybody I am starting to get more and more interested in NLP programming, and just ordered some allegedly highly rated books on Amazon on the subject. I desire to learn more about NLP both from a general perspective and trading-related. I saw some testimonials on Van Tharps site that seemed pr...

FOREX vrs. Stocks
Hello I am a individual investor that trades stocks using a trend following strategy, fortunately with fairly good success. My "system" is primarily dual MA cross with volume and RSI analysis. I have been trading via technical analysis and trend following for about 3 years now, and have ab...

IBD Group RS
A few years ago I was an avid IBD/CANSLIM proponent however I am now completely aligned with TA. IBD is a combination of "pattern formations" (Cup with Handle), volume analysis, and Fundamentals (however O'Neil does not use PE ratios). I find the Group Relative Strength rating as very usef...

MA' simple but effective
It is refreshing to see people talk about MA's. I trade a group of 15 stocks that I have researched, going back 3 years, and found particular MA sets that work very well with them. In almost all cases, the MA set will be 5/20, 5/30, 7/35, or 10/35. I use 10/75 for overall market condition on the S&a...

The Markets are a River
Throwing in my own two cents here- Think of the overall index as the river, and the stocks as boats on that river. The idea is to pick the fastest/strongest boat, which is moving in the same direction as the river. Then ride that boat (trend follow) until it slows down and/or changes direction. Thin...

Moving Averages - Comments?
Being an serious student of Tech. Analysis and Trend Following, I have found personal compatibility (read: comfort) with the use of Moving Averages. I initially learned about MAs from reading about Richard Donchian's works. I also have learned that the Turtle Method was based (in whole, or part?) on...
