Coffee table discussion -what contracts is everyone holding?

what is everyone holding/shorting right now? where are the trends? I am out of copper after being whipped from 150K to 80K. A re-read of the turtle rules "we let our equity go from XXX to XXX in order to stay with the overall trend" (or similar wording) keeps me from going insane. anyone e...

VENTING - Copper

 :x

Am I the only trader on the planet getting whipped around in copper futures? I am out now, too frustrating.

I never went short. The market did not (at that time, 2005) look like it was tanking.

It does now however and might short E-Mini Nasdaqs.

Copper - similarities to Silver Bull market of 70's?

Question to the old veterans

Any similarities between the current Copper bull market and the "famous" Bull Silver market of the 70's?

Short SPYders or the SP 500 futures?

Which to short? Why?

SPYders or the mini SP 500 futures contract?

(assuming we are seeing the beginning of a new bear market)

Yes it appears that weekly data is much more "noise-less" on commodities. In Schwager's Technical Anaylsis of Futures, he states on p.14 "The daily bar chart is most useful for trading purposes, but bar charts for longer data periods provide extremely important perspective." In M...

Weekly Bars with EMA futures system?

Looking for feedback I was taking a look at high volume commodities, back over 5 years, and it became apparent that a 5/20 EMA system using WEEKY BARS appeared to keep the trader on the correct side of the trend. I think it was Seykota or someone else who (when asked about day trading) stated that t...

Just short the E-Mini NASDAQ instead?

Why not?

In a Bear Market, why hunt for short candidates when you can short the E-Mini NASDAQ futures and arguably (if you are right on your call) make more money anyway.

Beats screening 10,000 stocks if you ask me

On ypur posted chart may I ask where your entances and exits were? I would assume, out of honesty, you will be discussing where you were whipsawed. Unless, of course, all of your trades were profitable, thus making you the best trader in the world My chart was posted for the forum to see and post c...

thanks for the responses guys

I am learning about futures and recently realized that trading the E-mini and holding for the market cycle may be easier than hand picking and researching each stock that comes up on my "watchlist" every night.

Why not trade E-Mini's long term with EMAs?

Just curious, looking for comments I am not saying I am "right" or "wrong", but looking for constructive comments and criticism. As a still-learning futures trader, and a stock investor for coming up on 10 years, I am growing wearing of stocks responding to Greenspan, bombs in Ba...

Futures - watchlist - trendlines

Just wanted to throw these out there for banter, these are the futures that both enjoy high volume and also appear to be in established trends Please comment (I am still learning) US Dollar Index - long downtrend, possible LONG when 83.0 area is penetrated to upside Soybeans - sideways pattern, poss...

Xpresstrade, Lind Waldock, IB, etc

Can anyone recommend a futures broker for a private, self managed account? I see that Xpresstrade has "quasi-GTC" orders, in which they automatically re-place your order until it finally gets filled. Markets to be traded will be mini SP 500 and E-Mini NASDAQ primarily, also the grains, mea...

Trend Following with EMA + CANSLIM

Improved CANSLIM? I have been doing extensive "back testing" on this year's stocks, plus ALL the strong performers in O'Neils's books, and I have found that: Instead of looking for the ever perfect cup with handle, flat bases, etc, it is possibly better to look for: (stocks that have high ...

dealing with whipsaws

How do you people deal with whipsaws, from an emotional standpoint. Lately I have been "whipped around" alot and we all know that maybe 3 or 4 trades a year will make up for all the whipsaws and still put money on the table. Nonetheless, when trade #5 out of 5 ends up being stopped out, du...

Trailing stop question - dual EMA or % loss?

I would like to ask the audience for input I have been trading N-day breakouts on stocks and have been profitable. Examples of actual stocks owned are CALM, NVTL, MAGS, IPIX, CLCT. I tend to place a "O'Neil" stop at the 7% loss point. However, over the last few months that has not been wor...

question

would it be fair to say that the natural point for a long exit should be the same place you would execute a short sale?

also of course, the natural point to cover shorts the same point to buy long?
