Stephen, I'm curently reading a book of Mark Ritchie "God In The Pits" and he explains all those moments of limit up, limit down moves of Silver madness in 79-80. Good read, I recommend this book

Chelonia, E bean oil is thinly traded, if you could see the book of bid/ask and there just a few contracts on the bid side, its extremely easy to lower the price of the commodity by simply hitting those bids... make sure there's enough volume in stuff you trade

As I see it, pit trading is good for those who execute large orders and want to accumulate or dump a lot at once, for small orders electronic is just fine, but I dont want pits to go away anyways
