refco is also part owner of fxcm

look you can't look at a politician or a broker and seek no blemishes. There are none out there. there are not saits. I am sure fxcm will not run away and take your account.

I have looked at IB (interactive broker), Advanced Futures. Both deal with an IRA costodian, AF charges a $50 setup fee and $100 fee for every year but yoiu can trade anything in the account including futures spreads. AF deals with MilleniumTrust for the IRA, their software X_Trader has spread capab...

I am looking for good spread broker that handles IRA

I only trade spreads, I like electronic access and phone backup.
Any ideas? US markets are adequate. Must be reasonable as I take no advice.

Thanks

I am a LT trend follower too but my clients are always seeking a cheaper way of playing the futures markets. With the advent of mini contracts there is little need for spread trading but it can be a useful knowledge even determining the trend signals. I trade the energy markets and currencies as spr...

Spread question

A typical bullish spread the speculator would initiate by being long the nearest month and sell a further out month. A typical bear market the speculator would initiate by being short the nearest and buy the more distant month. Now I have an old book by Tom Kallard where he states that for gold the ...

free end of day quote NT service for some friendly advice.

I have a freebie for some advice. Look at this code and tell me a smart way to merge these tables that I create into a final repository. The way the software works is you just say daily download and give a list of symbols. and the service will do the rest. load end of day prices into the tables for ...

"back-testing" vs "trading systems"

How do you feel about this? Could this be one or one functionality has to be more distinct? If you have a back-testing system why could it not give you signals on current (end-of-day) data? I know that a backtesting system also crunches the results and gives statistical reporting/graphs on results. ...

It makes sense.

Thanks Kiwi, It does but my intended P/L now just makes a division for most everything (EXCEPT currencies) and gets the bigpoint value so the profit loss can be just computed and multiplied by the big point value. Actually (NOW) I compute the number of ticks and multiply the tickvalue(in dollars) an...

This thread had been great help....

but I am still struggling with currency P/L.. This may be a dumb quesiton but it apprears that currency P/L calc must be different from the rest due to the normal big handle division yields results in non USD where we need P/L in USD... My progammer is in Poland and English is as alien to him as the...

HQuotes I find easy to use

HQuotesPro and I coded to accept that data format and others that take txt or csv files.
I think I only have to account for the interest rate products as "special cases" for now..

trading and poker

I played poker before I traded seriously. The subject of comparison and analogies between the two has intrigued me for long time. This is what I preach....

Trading a mechanical breakout system can provide invaluable experience. The average net profit for the majority of these systems is quite low, so they may not guarantee a FAST road to riches; but they serve as a superb vehicle to gain a wealth of experience in a very structured format. If you are go...

I don't know...most stock shorts get into trouble are unhedged. Portfolio shorts, holding long correlated stocks (based on fundemental and trend) can profit I think. How do you determine the "trend" aside of a 20-day

I would like to build a stock system, where the short portfolio only goes short when the trend is down of that stock! Aside from using the much talked about BO (turtle) technique, what good measurement could one have programmatically to safely say the trend is ....(Up/Down)? I would not be opposed t...
