Sierra chart looks interesting. Together with mytrack that might do the job. I am also investigating futuresource but their xtra product is $74/mo plus exchange fees, pretty expensive :( I am not paying for data. I am using Farr Financial for pit traded futures and IB for electronic ones that they t...

has anyone studied Toby Crabel's ideas?
Toby Crabel has some interesting studies on historical volatility systems.
Have you ever used them in your trading systems?

how important is intraday volume data?
I am doing futures swing trading, discretionary, and mostly pit-traded. I do not have intraday volume data. How important do you think it is? If I want to get it, I will have to sign up for eSignal or a provider like that and the fees are very high when you include exchange fees ($97/month for NYBOT...

The only thing that is *not* discretionary is the requirement that every exit rule must have a positive expectancy. So, probably my current exit strategy does not give an optimal bottom line result, but it's optimal for my current trading psyche. Could you elaborate on this? Wouldn't any exit have ...

I have been using a discretionary system that seems to be working for swing trades, a few days to several weeks. But the exit is still an issue for me. I am trading futures charts that show good solid support and I am buying into resistance, where the stop can be placed closely and the expectancy is...

this is an area where I could really use some help -- exits. I am doing shorter term trading -- days to weeks. My style is buying from solid support to resistance, or selling from solid resistance to support. I am pyramidinig in, and I don't mind turning a trade that is trending with me into a longe...

Re: Scaling/Pyramiding
Trading is probably like living: you can't do it by procuration 8) This forum is excellent as a source of ideas, of enlightenment (little light bulbs suddenly popping out inside your head), as a repository of other's failures and how they got there, but I wouldn't trust a single recipe for success ...

I look at stops two ways: money management and technically significant levels. Trading futures, I look at the chart and locate support and resistance levels, including the 20dMA, 50dMA and 100dMA. I only go into a trade when there is a strong reason to put the stop fairly close, so if the trade fail...

consider thinkorswim. I have not compared to OptionsXpress. I use IB and thinkorswim. I use IB mostly for futures and thinkorswim for options and stocks. thinkorswim has the best software I have ever seen, free. It includes a great charting package with prophet charts license bundled in. Their order...

low on N 1/2 on O low on C I guess I am with c.f. here, as I feel the same way about myself. I am easily bored with routine. I do have numerous outlets for my creativity other than trading. But I am also in the mode with respect to trading where I'm trying out various things that seem to suit me. I ...

I agree that exits are hard. Here's what's hard about it for me. Say I have 3 positions. 2 are a bit down and 1 is up. The 2 that are down were trending up when I bought them but are either in a temporary reversal or else they were bought in a false breakout -- I can't tell at this point. The winnin...

Hello, this is my first post here. One assist if you are involved in equities is Dow Theory and its four phases of the market. This probably applies to other markets as well. There are two trendless phases and two trending phases of a market. At my stage in thinking, it pays to be aware of fundament...
