Accounting for Forex
Bollinger I come from a strong Forex background and enjoy a medium familiarty with the backadjustment process for Futures data. I guess I can state that analysis of the historical "Spot" market provides the single asset price from any previous date until any desired subsequent following da...

Re: Accounting for FX carry
Do you apply the interest payments as adjustments to account P/L after the trade was entered, or do you use them to backadjust all the price data historically? It needs to be the latter to permit proper backtesting, otherwise you're not taking the carry into account with your technical analysis lea...

Forex and Stoppies
Guys, ....just following on from above, one obvious solution would be to impose your own slippage when placing a S/L order. For example if you are LONG a unit of USD/JPY at 110.50 and your 2 ATR S/L calculates at 108.80, you could always place the actual S/L order one spread worse that your intended...

Stop Loss in Forex
c.f. This issue is argued every day in the wholesale Forex markets where often a price is only seen traded because a Stop-Loss is triggered. Because most Forex trading houses promise and deliver zero-slippage, they have no real option but to hit stops when the price is seen on the other side of the ...

Your methodology sounds spot-on (no-pun intended), I cannot imagine a more correct method of calculating FX Carry.

"Fading" (Reading your interest)
Kiwi Interesting that you've heard of reports of retail brokers that are "fading ' or "reading" a clients interest and the skewing the price against the client. I'm sure you'd be aware that this is standard practice in the wholesale Forex markets, it's only natural that it would trick...

The importance of Pyramiding
Personally, I have found Pyramiding to be the most powerful part of my trading system, and it thus has added much greater value than to me than 'Entry' and certainly more value than early exit of losing trades. I have used variations of the Pyramid procedure as described in the 'Original Turtle' rul...

Trader Psychology
Unsurprisingly I'm an INTJ, most of the description fits me quite well I think. This is very consistent with a " Hermann Brain " profile that I completed a few years ago. http://www.mindwerx.com.au/HBDI_programs.htm What does really surprise me is that INTJs + INTPs make up just 2% of the ...

Re: Access to many Asian Markets
Here's a broker that I just recently stumbled across which has access to many of the 'emerging' asian markets, including HK. http://home.boom.com.hk/index.html .....Commissions look fairly high for many of these markets, but I think a lot of that is due to regulatory fees. -Jason Jason The charges ...

At any given day among X contracts of heating oil traded, X1 was traded by institutions for speculative purposes, X2 by institutions making market, X3 by hedge funds, X4 by retail traders, etc. so that X1 + X2 + ...Xn = 2*X. For example, I had friend from Spain put $100,000 usd in an online acct in the U.S. becuase he liked the spreads of 3-5 pips in the major currencies. He did this when the Euro/usd was trading below .9000 now with Euro above 1.25 he stands lose a good portion of his capital base at the current marke...

In Defence of Online Forex
In my informed opinion the services offered by some of the better-known online Forex providers is as good as (or better) than what has been available in the wholesale Corporate and Institutional marketplace. 1. 5-pip spreads is pretty damn good in volume of just USD 100k. Whilst Institutional client...

Trading System.
Richard I guess the best advice I can give you is to read and research as much as you can. There are many decisions you will have to make in your quest for an appropriate Trading System and 'best' market is only one of these. If you've not already done so I recommend that you read some of the Schwag...

Nathan Have a read of this forum first : http://www.tradingblox.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=237&highlight=excel I too have spent many, many hours on just this very endeavour. It is indeed a messy and time-consuming task in Excel and I am loathe to recommend anyone else try to do the same. The appr...
