hmmm....
I had also just come across something on the web calling it "minimal acceptable return" (MAR).
http://www.sortino.com
Maybe we can get a consensus from some others?
Thanks for your reply.

Hey, I am on a short bankroll and have very little free time so when money and time are a problem, one doesnt have the luxery of making many mistakes. I have also tried to learn coding and am failing miserably at it. But, maybe I need to buy a specific book. I am still willing to learn. Also, do al...

Roscoe, Either the turtle system still works or it doesnt. Either the triple moving average system is better than the turtle system or it isnt. Am I missing something? -) Heck, i could just burn my brain out learning how to use trade station and experiment for years if I wanted to do that. Am I wro...

If you want total unabashed honesty, the advice I would give you is: dont bother daytrading. I traded at two props firms in NYC for a little over 2 years. I was ahead on a gross basis by about $45,000, after commissions I was down about $15k. That translates into $60k in commissions. Not a winning f...

I feel your pain. I come from a daytrading shop and it was hard getting away from being glued to the screen. I found it just took time to change my mentality. When a stock gets to my entry and exit points I am still a 5-min chart person but until it gets to those areas I don't worry about it anymor...

My interest in VaR is along the lines of being curious to what the number would be. I know banks and funds tend to use things like this and think it would be interesting to see what the numbers say. It is just a tool like anything else and people who over rely on the number generated and lose focus...

Overcoming bad habits acquired from day trading
I worked at a day trading firm on Wall Street for about the last 2.5 years with very little success. Including commissions, I was down about $40k in that period, most of which is commission charges. Anyway, the more I watched trades take off after I'd taken my token half a buck, I began to realize t...
